Tim WaterstoneGuerilla tactics from a UK business veteran |
“All the best entrepreneurial companies are simple in organisation… You shouldn’t go for endless wins; just concentrate on what matters and do it.”
In 1982, Tim Waterstone founded his eponymous bookshop chain. In 1998, he sold it for £300m. Today, Waterstone’s is the largest business of its kind in Europe, employing 4,500 people. Yet the key lesson for executives to learn from its success, he says, is to think continually like an underdog. As the founder of several organisations and an adviser to many more, Tim can speak authoritatively on topics such as management and leadership. What’s more, he can serve every helping of rich advice with a sparkling anecdote from a life spent in business. The chief benefit of his events, however, is that they light a fire in your belly, encouraging you to challenge the received wisdom of your industry and fight for customer needs.
