Amy Beeton is the only living British female to be able to talk about climbing the world’s two highest mountains; Mount Everest and K2. Amy’s Everest summit in 2007 makes her one of only a handful of British females to achieve this; a feat made all the more impressive after undergoing unexpected major surgery only weeks before departure.

Amy is the only living British female to have attempted to climb the notorious K2 Mountain, “The Savage Mountain” situated on the borders of China and Pakistan. In 2009, a year that saw no summiteers on K2, Amy returned from an experience she describes as “haunting, tragic and exceptionally difficult on every level”.

Amy’s experiences of mountains, danger and survival awaken aspirations in many. However, it is the story of her journey from ordinary to extraordinary, how she has made the ‘impossible’ happen from a base of nothing that truly inspires: after 10 years of juggling a demanding, full time career with a deep desire to spend more time mountaineering and having faced a series of difficult circumstances which challenged every aspect of her life, Amy was at a point she describes as her ‘lowest ebb’. With not a penny to spare and after weeks of living off her Boots Advantage Card points, she suddenly decided to turn her life around by setting herself a simple and clear objective: to climb Everest! The commitment was made; the journey had started.
